Edinson Cavani has had a fine start to life as a Manchester United player.

The former PSG and Napoli striker came off the bench to make his debut against Chelsea on Saturday, and almost scored with his first touch as he directed a Bruno Fernandes cross towards goal.

The signing of the veteran 33-year-old did raise some eyebrows despite his incredible goal-scoring record in France, but he is said to have made a good impression on his new colleagues this week.

The Uruguay talisman could make his full debut as soon as Wednesday, with United taking on RB Leipzig.

According to The Athletic, Cavani has made a ‘very good’ impression in his first week.

They add that he will offer genuine competition to Anthony Martial if his performances in training are repeated, following his first Premier League appearance.

“He showed in glimpses [what he can do]. He’ll give us a presence in the box,” said Solskjaer.

“There was a nice little run towards the near post, a nice little flick. He almost had another one when Thiago Silva had a great block - that would have been great for him.

“He has clever movements, great runs. He is an experienced centre-forward and the more we get the ball into him in and around the box we will get some goals from him.

“He has come in and had a great influence on the training ground already but we know he needs game time to get his sharpness.”

Despite the positivity surrounding Cavani, his advanced age may have led to United already considering a possible replacement for next season, and it could be Erling Haaland.

The Red Devils may have failed in their attempts to sign the Norwegian in January, but the Athletic add that they will try to build on the bridges made with Solskjaer in the future.
