Video: ‘The Ideal Is That He Wins It and That Behind It, He Signs in a Big Club’ – Former PSG Player the Potential Departure of Mbappé

Former Paris Saint-Germain attacking midfielder Youri Djorkaeff and current ambassador for PSG and works for FIFA as president of its Foundation conducted an interview for Paris Fans about his PSG journey.

He talks about his history with the capital club with his family, considering his father played for Les Parisiens.

“Yes, it was important to me. Mainly because he had played in Lyon and Marseille too, but I was not born or too young. But I spent my young adolescence in Paris, and my first experiences at the stadium were with my father, who played for PSG,” Djorkaeff said.

“My memories with my father as a player are with Paris. It marked me. It rocked my childhood. So I said to myself that if one day there was the possibility if I had to play in a club, it would be PSG.”

Djorkaeff then touched on PSG became a launching pad for his career in hopes a bigger club would take an interest in him.

“Absolutely, because I had four years at AS Monaco, which were extraordinary, it allowed me to be a top scorer, to play for the French team, to win titles. I needed an experience with even more what PSG could offer me. It was the madness of the Parc des Princes, living in an extraordinary city, one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, and being confronted with all the players in the team,” Djorkaeff said.

Djorkaeff then discussed why he decided to part way with PSG, despite initially wanting to finish his career with Les Parisiens.

“My goal was to end my life in Paris. I wanted to settle in the long term. I was too comfortable in the city. It was my stadium, my club. I spoke with the leaders in December, when I arrived in August. They told me they were going to think about it, but they made me an offer. It was way too late. I already had all the biggest clubs that wanted me, including Barcelona and Inter Milan,” Djorkaeff said.

“The career prospects, I’m not talking about numbers, it comes later, were greater than those offered by Paris at the time. With Barcelona or Inter, we were talking about winning the Champions League, triplets every year, great players. At PSG, it was more to resign a contract, of course rewarding, but the goals were not as great at the sporting level.”

Finally, Djorkaeff touches on Kylian Mbappé’s contract situation as the 21-year-old will have one year left on his contract after this season.

“I think Mbappé, he will always have the right opportunity. Now he’s on a project. He is starting his 4th in Paris. He is a young player. I don’t see him staying at PSG for ten years,” Djorkaeff said.

“His future is to win titles on all continents; something few French people have done. Last year he had a great opportunity for the Champions League. Unfortunately, he didn’t. This year he will still have the opportunity. The ideal is that he wins it and that behind it, he signs in a big club. Everyone will be happy.”
