Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez has refused to rule out a return to France in the future and discussed the possibility of playing for Marseille or Paris Saint-Germain.

Mahrez has been in English football since 2014, when he joined Leicester, but he started his career in France, playing for Quimper before signing for Le Havre.

The Algeria international was asked about his future by his City team-mate Benjamin Mendy and revealed that he was a Marseille fan when he was growing up.

Mahrez said in an interview with Canal Plus: 'He's crazy, but it's true that I was a supporter of Marseille when I was little.


'Regarding PSG - it's not relevant because I'm still under contract and I'm fine in Manchester, but Paris is my city. I was born and raised in Paris. You never know.'

The 29-year-old admitted that he had the opportunity to join Marseille in 2014 and stated that he could join them at some stage.

He said: 'I could have gone to play in Marseille [in 2014-15] and I can still play in Marseille. You never know in life, you shouldn't close any door.

'I didn't know at the time and I was fine at Leicester but they ruled that I didn't have the required level [to play there].'

After winning the Premier League with Leicester in 2016, Mahrez has also won the title with City, while he has won the League Cup twice and the FA Cup once.

Mahrez seems settled at City for now, with his contract at the Etihad Stadium running until the summer of 2023.

This season he has made seven appearances for City, scoring once and providing one assist.
