Report: Source Close To French Football Clubs Deny Being Approached Over European Premier League

Sky Sports reported that financers are assembling a $6 billion (£4.6 billion) funding package to create a European Premier League.

With FIFA supporting this project, the league would like to consist of 16 or 18 teams from England, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain to compete in two-way matches throughout the season.

The amount of backing this potential league has; it sounds like something that could soon get off the ground.

However, RMC Sport reports that a source close to big French clubs denies that they’ve been approached about joining a European Premier League. Their source also adds that this project seems like a bluff and doesn’t see it occurring.

With the coronavirus affecting the pockets of the biggest clubs around Europe, it’s no secret that they want to come up with something that will bring in money, which this European Premier League would do.

2022 is a potential target date for this league to get underway, so we will see whether it’s wishful thinking like RMC Sport’s source suggest or that start of something new.
