Ex-Man Utd midfielder Fletcher: Fernandes showed Cantona mentality for spotkick success

Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has hailed the 'belief' of Bruno Fernandes after the win over PSG on Tuesday.

Fernandes' first-half spot-kick was saved by Keylor Navas, his second consecutive penalty miss.

But Navas stepped off his line and Fernandes did not make the same mistake with his next spot-kick.

Fletcher was in awe of Fernandes' confidence, comparing the act to United greats Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"It is not a great penalty the first one, it goes too close to the goalkeeper, he goes back to his hop, skip and jump, but credit to him," Fletcher said.

"He's the captain, and that could easily be a Eric Cantona or Cristiano Ronaldo, somebody having that belief in themselves that they missed a penalty at the weekend and missed a penalty there.

"But there was only one person taking that penalty there and that was Bruno Fernandes."
