The UEFA Champions League is back and it returned with a bang last night in the form of multiple fixtures across the continent. Some were more exciting than others with one of the best coming in the French capital as Manchester United scored a late winner to beat 2020 runners-up Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG frustrated by de Gea
The scoreline suggests that PSG weren’t really at the races and while that was somewhat true in front of goal, they definitely had their fair share of chances. The biggest issue for them was their inability to get past David de Gea who really did step it up in a big way, and you could even argue he was the primary reason behind United picking up all three points.
Manchester’s hero
The City of Manchester has been through a lot in the last few days as the UK government continues to drag their feet over providing them with assistance due to their impending Tier 3 restrictions. Andy Burnham has been the man leading the charge as the city’s mayor but alongside him, you’ve got Marcus Rashford. The England striker was able to add to his phenomenal work in getting free school meals for children by scoring the winning goal in Paris, reminding fans what he’s capable of 18 months on from his other late winner against the French champions.
The perfect distraction?
Things aren’t going particularly well for United in the Premier League right now and while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have time to turn things around, it’ll be important for him and the club to find some comfort in the Champions League. They’re in a tough group alongside PSG, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir but after their win last night, more fans will be taking 888sport up on their 20/1 odds for the Red Devils to lift the European Cup in May. It may not be likely, but it’s nice to dream.
