Manchester United fans believe Edinson Cavani may have played a part in Axel Tuanzebe's defensive masterclass in the Champions League victory against Paris Saint-Germain.

Tuanzebe, 22, made his return from injury at the Parc des Princes, stepping into a back three with Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly unavailable due to injury.

The game was Tuanzebe's first competitive outing since December 2019 but the youngster's quality was evident throughout, winning a number of key duels against Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Deadline day signing Cavani did not travel to Paris to face his former club after only recently joining his new teammates in training following a period of self-isolation after arriving in the UK.

Nevertheless, United supporters believe he may have offered some advice to Tuanzebe ahead of the match after the pair were spotted in conversation during a training video.

Tuanzebe is fluent in French as a result of his Congolese descent and fans believe Cavani may have given the United defender some tips on facing his former teammates.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for Tuanzebe following another memorable night in France.

He said: "Axel did fantastic. He's been out since the last game against Colchester, 10 months or something? To put up a performance like this against Neymar and Mbappe... I have to say he almost surprised us as well.

"We know he's a good player but on a night like this, he was fantastic. We might see this system again, of course, we have had some good games in it."
