Unai Emery: 'Kylian Mbappe wanted Real Madrid move'

Unai Emery claims that Kylian Mbappe wanted to join Real Madrid when the pair were together at Paris Saint-Germain.

Unai Emery has claimed that Kylian Mbappe signalled a desire to join Real Madrid when the pair were together at Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with Madrid thought to be leading the race to sign the France international in a big-money deal.

Liverpool, Juventus and Barcelona have also been strongly linked with the World Cup winner, though, amid suggestions that he could be on the move during next summer's transfer window.

Emery managed PSG between 2016 and 2018, coaching Mbappe during the 2017-18 campaign, and the 48-year-old has said that the attacker wanted to move to the Bernabeu during his time at the club.

Speaking to Cadena Cope, Emery claimed that the former Monaco youngster "was very excited to play for Real Madrid", but PSG ultimately managed to retain his services.

Mbappe has scored 94 times in 129 appearances for the French champions in all competitions, including four goals in five outings at the start of the 2020-21 campaign.
