United reach new club landmark after PSG win

Did you know that our UEFA Champions League group-stage win in Paris secured a new club record for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

Marcus Rashford’s late strike at the Parc des Princes ensured a 10th consecutive away win for the Reds, excluding games at neutral venues, continuing a run which stretches all the way back to June.

That sequence is the best we’ve ever managed – beating the run of nine achieved immediately after the Norwegian took charge in December 2018.

In October 2020, we once again beat PSG in France, thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford...

Bruno Fernandes, who opened the scoring in Tuesday’s victory, has netted seven times during our winning run, while matchwinner Rashford has registered on five occasions.

The sequence began with an FA Cup quarter-final success at Norwich City, before Brighton, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Leicester were seen off at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

So far in 2020/21, Luton, Brighton (twice), Newcastle and PSG have been beaten on the road and the Reds can stretch the run further when we travel to Istanbul Basaksehir at the beginning of November.

Ole – and United’s – previous mark of nine on-the-trot was, coincidentally, also set at the Parc des Princes. Our 2018/19 Champions League second-round win in Paris followed on from conquests at Cardiff, Newcastle, Tottenham, Arsenal, Leicester, Fulham, Chelsea and Crystal Palace, but the run was brought to an end by the Gunners in the Premier League a few days on from that memorable European success.

On a side note, the Reds have now gone 18 games unbeaten away from home since losing at Liverpool in January, and are now just three positive results away from equalling the all-time landmark of 21, set by Sir Alex Ferguson’s United between December 1998 and October 1999.
