Liverpool is a realistic destination for Kylian Mbappe next summer but any transfer to Anfield will come down to money, talkSPORT has been told.

Mbappe’s contract runs out in 2022 and Paris Saint-Germain may be forced to sell him to avoid losing the France superstar for nothing.

The France World Cup winner has previously spoken of his dream of playing for Real Madrid.

The 20-year-old also admires Liverpool amid their recent successes in Europe and the Premier League.

Journalist and French football expert Julien Laurens believes they are the two options for Mbappe's next club if he leaves PSG.

He told talkSPORT: “If you ask Mbappe now about Liverpool he’s, ‘wow, it’s amazing what they do. The club is incredible. They’ve got an amazing team’.

“The future of Kylian Mbappe is up in the air because PSG will say, ‘okay you don’t want to extend your deal so we are going to sell you next summer’. There will be two clubs who he will be really keen on.

“Real Madrid are his dream, but Liverpool very much will be in the conversation for him and his family because he’s really in awe of what they are doing and what they are building. He spoke on the record of how good they’ve been.

“I think he used the word 'machine'. I certainly think he will really fancy playing for a club like Liverpool if there was an opportunity there.

“I don’t think it’s just Real Madrid, I think there are others as well in Europe who have the same fascination and attraction as Real Madrid but they seem to still be the club he wants to play for.”

As ever with these type of deals it will come down to money.

PSG paid around £166million for Mbappe back in 2018 to make his loan from Monaco permanent.

Real Madrid are more than accustomed to paying huge transfer fees but there may be some question marks over Liverpool’s ability to afford signing Mbappe.

Laurens added: “I don’t think they could pay £200m as a transfer fee, as we saw with Timo Werner for instance, and then pay him around £25m-a-year. I don’t think they have the money.

“If they have the money and put it on the table he will certainly consider it. I think Real Madrid will have that money this summer coming and the one after it as well.

“Maybe they will make an offer for him. For me, it will be down to financial details and if Liverpool can afford him or not.

“He’s on €22m [£20m] gross per year and in a year’s time maybe he’s won the Euros with France and the Olympics, he wants to play both, and the Champions League with PSG you will be talking £30m-a-year.”

Laurens also believes next season is key with both Mbappe and Neymar at risk of leaving in the near future.

He added: "The structure in the club is far more professional. Far more serious in many ways. The thing for me is this is a key season.

“For one thing especially - Neymar and Mbappe are both out of contract in June 2022. If the club cannot extend those deals, and they want to extend both of them; ideally they would want Mbappe to sign a new deal and Neymar to sign a new deal. You can keep them for a bit longer and then they will eventually go, especially Mbappe.

“If Mbappe doesn’t want to sign a new deal they will have to sell him next summer.”
