Former PSG Forward Mickael Madar Believes PSG Could Be in Need of a Revamped Midfield

Former Paris Saint-Germain forward Mickael Madar has been watching the club as of late and is not a fan of the team’s midfield depth.

PSG has gone out of its way to reinforce the midfield position over the years. While the club has lost several midfield talents in recent transfer windows, PSG’s board has responded by adding key signings to shore up the position.

Madar is not pleased with the profile of talents the team currently has in the middle of the park. In speaking to Le Parisien, Madar touched on why he believes that PSG’s midfield unit does not help in creating a free-flowing attack for the team.

“There isn’t a midfielder [within PSG] who can play football and avoid certain players, for example Neymar, from coming down to get the ball,” Madar said. “At one point, the defenders don’t even go through the middle anymore. They try to find the attackers right away. This prevents to have a coherent game and a team.”

Madar also singled out a trio of midfielders within the club and their weaknesses.

“Verratti touches the ball fifty times and cannot give speed,” Madar said. “Gueye is dead at every game, we don’t know where he is, and Paredes has a good pass but that’s it. These last two are not enough to play at PSG.”

PSG has not signed a midfielder over the ongoing transfer window.
