PSG Will Face OGC Nice Behind Closed Doors

OGC Nice has elected to move forward with its Ligue 1 home fixture against Paris Saint-Germain but without any fans, the club announced on its official website.

Bernard Gonzalez, the prefect for the Maritime-Alpes, recently announced that the city of Nice dropped its spectator limit for large events from 5,000 to 1,000 amid the rise in coronavirus cases within the region.

OGC Nice decided that it was best to still hold its upcoming league contest against PSG, but it will not allow any fans into the Allianz Riviera stadium.

Nice chairman Jean-Pierre Rivere made the announcement via the club’s official website.

“With regard to our supporters, it was already complicated to be limited to 5,000 people,” Rivere said. “Today it is 1,000. Once you deduct the whole organization, you almost reach that number. This means that the match will be played.”

With the sudden upward trend in positive coronavirus tests as of late in France, it will be interesting to see if all Ligue 1 stadiums will soon have to abide by a 1,000 large event spectator limit.
